How Long Do Alpacas Live? Meet Our Herd

One of the most common questions we’re asked during visits to The Remedy Farm is:
“How long do alpacas live?”
Alpacas are a long-lived species and truly become part of the family. Below, we’re sharing helpful information about alpaca lifespan along with the ages and birthdays of our own alpaca boys here on the farm.
Alpacas typically live 15–20 years on average. With excellent care, many alpacas can live into their early to mid-20s. An alpaca’s lifespan is influenced by several important factors, including:
Proper nutrition
Routine veterinary care
Parasite prevention
A low-stress, safe environment
Because alpacas are a long-term commitment, they form deep bonds with their herd and caretakers. In rare cases, alpacas have been reported to live even longer! Some of the oldest alpacas on record have reached approximately 27 years old, though this is uncommon and depends on lifelong health and care.

Valor
Born: January 4, 2012
Current Age: 14 years old
Our oldest boy and wise leader of the herd. Valor is calm, gentle, and has a steady presence that sets the tone in the barn.
Echo
Born: May 18, 2014
Current Age: 11 years old
Echo loves treats and apple kisses but prefers admiration over touch. Sweet and observant, he enjoys doing things on his own terms and quietly watching everything happening around him.
Handsome Devil
Born: November 26, 2014
Current Age: 11 years old
True to his name, Handsome Devil is striking, charming, and full of personality. He’s the first boy we bring out to visit guests of all ages and is known for making a great first impression.
Buckshot
Born: April 21, 2015
Current Age: 10 years old
Small but mighty, Buckshot is playful, curious, and full of personality. He’s always showing off his smile and never misses a chance to take a good selfie.
Chico
Born: March 21, 2016
Current Age: 9 years old
Expressive and striking in his appearance, Chico is a fan favorite. He’s been training with fair students for the past few years and truly shines in the spotlight.
Trigger
Born: May 10, 2016
Current Age: 9 years old
Trigger has a big personality and brings joy everywhere he goes. Anyone who meets him quickly learns just how silly and lovable he truly is.
Gauge
Born: June 6, 2019
Current Age: 6 years old
The youngest of the boys, Gauge is a stud with lots of energy. Fun, youthful, and full of life, he keeps the herd on their toes.
Our alpacas are family, and we’re honored to care for them through every stage of life. From playful younger boys to wise senior leaders, each one brings something special to our farm and our hearts.
